Find your way around every day.
Clear answers for browsing the calendar, keeping holiday dates current, adding your own events, and adjusting the app to suit you.
Start with the calendar
Open the app to see the current date. The controls across the top let you switch between Month, Timeline and Year. Tap Today at any time to return to the current date.
- Choose a view. Use Month for a focused calendar, Timeline to move through the year, or Year to see all twelve months together.
- Move through dates. Use the left and right arrows to change months or years. In Year view, tap a month to open it.
- Look below the calendar. Special Days lists published holidays; My Events shows the dates you have added yourself.
Choose the right view

Scroll through months with illustrated covers, calendar grids and holiday details in one continuous view.
See twelve months at a glance. Tap a month to move into Month view for more detail.
Use Settings → First day of week to choose Monday or Sunday for all three views.
Holiday dates and updates
The app marks Poya days and published public, bank and mercantile holidays. A single date can have more than one holiday, and the labels show which types apply.
On the first use, connect to the internet so the app can download its holiday data. It saves those dates on your device, so previously downloaded years remain available offline. When you open the app online, it checks for changes about once a day and downloads changed years.
Only years included in the published holiday feed have highlighted holiday data. For travel, work or other important plans, confirm dates against the latest official notices. You can also browse the published 2026 and 2027 dates on this website.
Add and manage personal events
- In Month or Timeline view, tap the purple + button.
- Choose the date, enter an event name and tap Add Event. The event name is required.
- To change an event, tap it, edit its name or date and tap Save.
- To remove it, tap the event, choose Delete and confirm. Deletion cannot be undone.
Personal events are stored on your device. Holiday updates do not transfer or back up your events to another device.
Settings and appearance
Open the menu button at the top left, then choose Settings.
Choose English, Sinhala or Tamil for the app interface.
Choose Light, Dark or System default. System default follows your device appearance.
Choose Monday or Sunday for the Month, Timeline and Year views.
On Android, Settings also contains Calendar reminders. That section appears only where reminders are supported.
The app menu also includes About, and may show Rate app and Share app when a store listing is available on your platform.
Set calendar reminders
On Android, open Menu → Settings → Notifications and turn on Calendar reminders. The app can remind you before both published holidays and your personal events.
- Choose Remind before from one to seven days ahead.
- Set the Reminder time that works for you.
- Allow notifications when Android asks. You can also review permission in your device’s app notification settings.
Reminder delivery depends on your device’s notification and battery settings. The iOS version currently does not show the Android reminder controls.
Put the calendar on your Home screen
On Android, open Menu → Widgets. Choose the standard Calendar widget or the translucent Glass calendar widget. Both show the month and upcoming events.
Tap a preview or Add to Home screen to request the widget. If your launcher does not support adding it from the app, long-press an empty area of your Home screen, open your phone’s widget picker and find Sri Lanka Calendar there. Widget appearance and placement depend on your Android launcher.
Troubleshooting
Holiday dates are missing or old
Connect to the internet and reopen the app. It checks for updates on launch when the daily check is due. If the sync panel reports a problem, tap Retry. Check that the year is included in the published feed; other years may show a calendar without highlighted holidays.
The app says holiday data could not be validated
Tap Retry later. Your saved dates remain available while the app waits for valid updated data. If the message continues, contact support with the year and app version.
Android reminders are not arriving
Confirm reminders are on in the app, then check that Android allows notifications for Sri Lanka Calendar. Battery restrictions or delayed alarms can affect delivery. Try a different reminder time if needed.
The widget does not appear in the app or launcher
Widgets are available on Android. Open the Android widget picker and look for Sri Lanka Calendar. If the in-app add button is unavailable, your launcher may require adding widgets from its own picker.
My events are missing after changing phones
Personal events live in the device’s local app data. The holiday download does not restore them on another device. Contact support if they disappeared unexpectedly on the same device.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use the calendar without internet?
Yes. Calendar browsing and holiday years already downloaded to your device work offline. A connection is needed for the first holiday download and later updates.
Can I edit a published holiday?
No. Published holiday entries are separate from My Events. You can add your own event on any date and edit or delete that event.
Why does one date show two holidays?
Two published holidays can occur on the same date. The app keeps both entries so you can see each holiday and its listed types.
Are all Poya days public, bank and mercantile holidays?
The app displays the types supplied with each published holiday entry. In the current published data, Poya days are marked Public, Bank and Mercantile.
Why can’t I see holiday highlights for another year?
The calendar can show other years, but holiday highlights appear only for years included in the published holiday data.
Are reminders and widgets available on iPhone?
The current iOS version does not include the Android reminders or Home screen widgets described here. The calendar views, holiday dates, personal events and appearance settings are available in the shared app.
Can I change the language or week start?
Yes. Open Menu → Settings to choose English, Sinhala or Tamil, and Monday or Sunday as the first day of the week.
